Botswana
The Okavango Delta floods into a maze of channels and islands, holding one of the richest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. Much of it is only reachable by small plane or boat.
Kenya
The Maasai Mara is home to the Great Migration, when over a million wildebeest cross in from the Serengeti each year. Hot air balloons drift over the plains at sunrise, watching the herds from above.
Tanzania
The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed volcano holding one of the densest predator populations on the continent. The crater's walls rise nearly 2,000 feet, sealing in a population that never needs to migrate.
South Africa
Madikwe Game Reserve, a malaria-free reserve near the Botswana border. Private and less crowded than the household names, with lions at rest, a cheetah on the move, and elephants gathering by the hundreds at a watering hole.
Victoria Falls
One of the largest waterfalls in the world, spanning Zambia and Zimbabwe. A common add-on to a safari itinerary, a few days of a different kind of luxury before or after time in the bush.
